The Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists’ Association had a very humble beginning. Believers interested in evangelistic and intercessory activities used to assemble periodically for prayer and fellowship. In 1924, the then Metropolitan, Dr. Abraham Mar Thoma, because of his vision, took the initiative and leadership in forming an organization among these believers. The members got together for Bible study, prayer, sharing experiences and serving the sick.
Later on, the activities were extended to different parish levels and the unit of the organization established was named the “Edavaka Mission”. A seven fold activity manual was accepted and followed by most of the individual parishes.
The New Jersey Mar Thoma church Edavaka Mission unit was established in 1978 and functions as a strong body in Christ’s service. We, the members of the Edavaka Mission are very active in following the seven steps of our mission such as, Bible study, Intercessory prayer, Sharing experience, Serving the sick, Prayer Group activities, House visit and Evangelism. We strongly believe that eachMarthomite is an evangelist and must carry on the torch of Gospel until his/her death.
We arrange monthly prayer meetings, witnessing sessions and support evangelical and missionary works in India. Our Edavaka Mission arranges house visits and try to extend our hands to help the needy people, from time to time, in and around our parish.
