A Brief History
Long after the Malankara Mar Thoma Church was established and the Mar Thoma Christians migrated to North America, the first worship meeting of the Marthomites in New Jersey was held on October 12, 1980, at Peace Hall, Lutheran Chapel, Teaneck, New Jersey. Before this, worship services were held in New York. The parish was officially inaugurated on April 5, 1981, at the Goodwill Mission Chapel, 79 University Avenue, Newark, NJ. On May 30, 1982, we moved from the Goodwill Mission Chapel to the Christ Episcopal Church in Glen Ridge, NJ. In 1987, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 272 Rossville Avenue, Newark, became our next place of worship. Wanting a more permanent place for worship, the congregation decided to purchase the church and parsonage at 790 Route 10 West, Randolph Township , New Jersey. The church was purchased on January 31, 1997, and the first Holy Communion Service was held on March 2, 1997. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus dedicated the New Jersey Mar Thoma Church on Ocober 4, 1997.

We also appreciate and fondly remember the dedicated services of our youth chaplains, Rev. Kurien George, Rev. Raju Philip, Rev. Isaac Johnson, and Rev. Mathew Skariah.
