Mathew Abraham (Sunny), 70, was called to the Lord on July 4, 2018. He was born on April 28, 1948 to the late Mr. P. Chandy Abraham and late Mrs. Sosamma Abraham of the Puliyilathu family in Kozhencherry, Kerala, India as the fifth of eight children. 

Upon completing his primary education in Kerala in 1965, Sunny spent time in Calcutta, Kerala, and Hyderabad, where he continued studies in Electronics. He worked for Bharat Television in Delhi, where he married Sosamma Mathai (Kunjamma) on July 29, 1974. He moved to New York in 1975, where he continued studies in Electrical Engineering. In 1981, he joined the New York City Transit Authority as a Subway Car Inspector, retiring after 32 years of service in 2013. Sunny and Kunjamma moved to Bloomfield, New Jersey in 1983.  Sunny was also well known as the owner of Kohinoor grocery store in Bloomfield for six years.  

Sunny served the Lord as an active member of the Mar Thoma Church.  He was an original member of the Mar Thoma / CSI Congregation of Manhattan and then a member of Ebenezer Mar Thoma Church in Pelham, New York. Sunny joined the Mar Thoma Church of New Jersey in 1993, where he faithfully served in many leadership roles over the years, including Vice President, Trustee and Secretary. 

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Kunjamma their three daughters and their husbands, Santy & Jiju, Sibby & Blesson, and Sindhu & Shaun, their five grandchildren, Benjamin, Aashish, Nicholas, Shreya, and Jeeya. He is also survived by his siblings and their families: Mrs. Thankamma Paulose & late Mr. Varghese Paulose (Thiruvilla), late Mr. Simon Abraham & Mrs. Annamma Simon (Cochin), Mrs. Mary Kandathil & Mr. Mathew Kandathil (New York), Mr. Abraham Varghese & Mrs. Mariamma Varghese (Florida), Mr. Abraham Philip & Mrs. Moncy Philip (Oman), Rev. Abraham Chacko (Wayanad), and Mr. Abraham P. Abraham & Mrs. Valsamma Abraham (Kozhencherry). 

He was a dependable pillar of our family and relatives. His witty sense of humor, his infectious smile, and his kind and reassuring words made a significant impression on all he spent time with. He was dedicated to God, and his family and his grandchildren meant everything to him. He will live on in our hearts forever.
